Innocent Roots of Addiction ~ Workshop

  • Purusha House 18 Holdsworth Street Fremantle, WA, 6160 Australia (map)

Do you have any addictions?

Of course you do! We all do. Whether seemingly quite mild and high functioning or what would clearly be seen as problematic, the dynamics of addiction are part of our everyday lives.

In fact, addictiveness is at the root of our nature… and it’s not wrong! YOU are not wrong.

Some of the behaviours we engage in may bring us suffering and inhibit the unfolding of our potential, however. The behaviours and the roots are two different things.

Welcome to an afternoon in spiritual university, where the topic this time is the the innocent roots of addiction.

In this workshop we will take a radical and possibly surprising approach to the topic of addiction and explore how our addictive natures can be lived dharmically (in service of our destiny) rather than karmically (in service of repetitive habits).

It’s a powerful topic to open up, with great transformative potential.

The afternoon may include

  • teachings from Karam Kriya (see below for more about what this is)

  • discussion and conversation

  • self-reflection exercises

  • pair and/or small group exercises

  • meditations and some Kundalini Yoga exercises

What is Karam Kriya

Karam Kriya Applied Numerology is the study of numbers through life and life through numbers. The underlying matrix of all creation is number. All natural processes, from the evolutionary growth from seed to fruit, to the forming, peaking and dissolving of waves in the ocean, to the cycles of precipitation follow a universal order. And that same order is found fractally in absolutely everything everywhere .. including you. Karam Kriya, in studying this universal matrix of number and identifying it in the very words we speak gives us an incredible invitation to identify where we are living out of step with nature and therefore out of step with our own nature. In realigning ourselves, in consciously walking the natural sequences, we can transform our karma to dharma ie. our repeating, limiting patterns into a way of living that leads to elevation and excellence.

Kundalini Yoga

As taught by Yogi Bhajan

Is a profoundly holistic spiritual practice that combines the ancient technology and medicine of yoga exercises, pranayama (breath), meditation, mantra and mudra (hand positions) with philosophy on the art of living to give you an anchored experience of Self.

Jai Ram Kaur

Has been a highly experienced practitioner and teacher of Kundalini Yoga. She is an Associate teacher trainer with the Aquarian Trainer Academy and runs Kundalini Yoga teacher training in Perth. She is co founder of Karam Kriya Australia, is a Karam Kriya trainer and consultant and works with trainer teams internationally. She is also married with 3 teenagers/young adults.

Growing up in Perth feeling a sense of alienation and a deep missing of something that wasn’t being spoken of, at an early age Jai Ram began an outer and inner journey of finding out what that was. The journey took her far away and on her travels she eventually found in Kundalini Yoga, Karam Kriya and her teacher Shiv Charan Singh the treasures she didn’t know she was looking for. She found a language for the deep and unspoken one in her. She realised also that that which she wanted to serve to alleviate was not after all an outer poverty, but the spiritual poverty that she herself had suffered from. Now she loves speaking this healing language and serving others on their own quest for the true soul food for which we are all so very hungry.
