The physical body in the teachings of Kundalini Yoga is understood to be a spiritual body. It’s the 5th body. It’s like a musical instrument which can be tuned. We have the nervous system which is in a constant and incredibly sophisticated state of intercommunication. And we have 72000 subtle nerves (nadis) within the physical body which conduct vibration. We are vibratory, communicative beings! Into this, we introduce MANTRA!
A mantra is a word or words heard out of the universal sound current by beings of calibre. They are akin to the language of the soul; they communicate consciousness.
Since time immemorial human beings have used mantra to connect and communicate with self, the collective and the totality of the cosmos. And Kundalini Yoga is rich both in the variety and potency of the mantras we use and in the understanding of how they work. There is a science to it, but also a magic that can’t be explained. There is an art to mantra and also a powerful capacity for healing on all levels and in many ways.
